So I apologoize that life has gotten so busy that I haven't been able to catch up on this anywhere near to the extent that I should have been so please expect a massive influx of posts this next week. I really need to post some of this things before another month ends on me. Damn it time why must you run by so fast. You run faster than the fastest man on earth and are cruel with your limitations.
So yea this project was an interesting one in the fact that my process was pretty rushed because AP exam was coming up! I started with a pear shape, splicing it open and gutting it before finalizing the shape: moving toward a pinecone and nails!
I started by thinking of doing an entire sculpture in the round but instead ended up hollowing it out for time, and also played a lot with the orientation of the angle.
The petal process begins!
For the petals I had to make sure to have a slight cuve and indent while still maintaining a triangular end shape.
You can see here that I was starting to find where I wanted the pine cone to become closed petals.
looking back I wish that I had decided not to close them up so far up the form, as the final product ended up looking a little different than I would have liked. For the closed aspect of the metals/nails I chose to carve into the clay to create the shape so look at that: getting fancy with additive and subtractive!
Originally I was thinking of juxaposing each of the seed/leaf thingys of the pinecone with screws but the swirls of the screws ended up not working out because of the finedetail and the small size they would have to be. Also, I would loose the swirl of the screws when I went to join them to the form That I decided to switch to nails instead. Fun time!
Playing with angles and here I decided to lay it flat and hollow it out.
Connecting the Nails was so tedious and difficult!!! aughhh!!!

Final before glazing not looking to shabby and I was thrilled that it ended up being able to stand up on its own for photos!
